How to Network Tip of the Week #88 - 28th May 2009
===========================================================
Welcome to the eighty eighth www.howtonetwork.net tip of
the week.
===========================================================
Happy Thursday.
I've fallen slightly behind this week due to having to go
to hospital with some sort of chronic stomach pains. I
thought I was giving birth at one point but then my wife
reminded me that this could not be the case.
Good news is that this week I took on an assistant who
will be helping out with rack support, customer service
and order fulfilment. His name is Jason and you will find
out more about him soon.

Three New Seminars
In the current climate you need to protect yourself from
one of three things:
1. Threat of redundancy
2. Pay cuts
3. Outsourcing of your role
All three have happened to me but with the right plan
and training it will no longer be an issue.
I have had a fairly lacklustre response to the three
seminars below which was a surprise to me. After I hire
the venue, projector and camera man there is very little
profit in it at all. I arranged the seminars to help
you guys either:
1. Get into IT
2. Get started as an IT freelancer / contractor
3. Start your own IT business and sell it
Have I missed something? I presumed that if you were
on this newsletter then surely you ultimately want to
either get into IT or become a Cisco consultant or
even start your own business. If not then what is it
you do what out of your life and career? Please let me
know if I am off track.
This is going to be your only chance to benefit from
these seminars. Due to starting up another business in a
few weeks, travel plans and another book I will not be
able to run them again.

BSCI Theory Added
Our developer has started to upload the code from our
BSCI book onto the site. You will see a few pages appear
per day. Please bear with us but the good news is that you
can start to work on the theory and as each module appears
we can then add the videos and exams.
Only IP Routing will be there this week. This is an
introduction to CCNP concepts and a refresher of CCNA
stuff. All written by myself and dual CCIE Farai Tafta:

Would You Like to be a Cisco Trainer?
THE BELOW OFFER IS ABOUT TO GO INTO SELECTION PROCESS SO
PLEASE READ OR YOU WILL MISS OUT.
Stuart and I are now preparing the training content as
well as looking at dates. We are still considering
applicants so please read on. You will be the first to
receive updates if you are on the list below. Once
again, filling in the form just means you are going to
get first refusal and does not commit you to anything.
Please note that the UK has completely sold out so
don't fill the below form in if you want to run
courses there.
We now have about 55 names so far and WE ARE LOOKING FOR 10
ONLY but you still have time to express interest as we are
still sifting through applicants and working out the finer
details. Please see the discussion forum if you want to
help name the new business.
Please fill in the form below to express your interest.

Twitter Questions of the Day
We will be adding a couple of exam style questions every
day to our Twitter account. If you want to keep sharp then
please follow me on Twitter:

Testers Wanted
If any members have a home rack and SDM working I would
like one person to test some new SDM labs which I have
written for the new version of my CCNA book.
I also have 3 switching labs but one requires 3 switches
to do. The other 2 require one or two.
Any takers?

What Do Blocking STP Ports Forward?
A very simple exam question but can you answer it? If
not then you are not ready for the exam because this is
the typical type of question you will be asked. The
answer is supplied by our dual CCIE Farai on the forum:

===========================================================
Members Forum
The members forum is the place to go for help, support,
advice or just to say hello. In the past few weeks it has
gotten very busy which is a good thing for all of us.
Please come over and post a question or answer or just
say 'hi.'

CCNA Exams
Remember that before you take the exam for real you will
really benefit from taking some more realistic exams. To
this end we have some CCIE approved CCNA exams available
for you.
The exams have a small charge unless you are a platinum
member:
