How to Network Tip of the Week #46 – 24th July 2008

===========================================================

Welcome to the forty-sixth www.howtonetwork.net tip of
the week.

===========================================================

Live Rack is Still Live

In case you missed the announcement last week, the live
rack of Cisco routers and switches is now operational. If
you want to take advantage of the 15 hours instead of 10
on the rack you need to join the site before the end of
July.

You will need to complete 7 short lessons on how to use
your rack then fill in the form and your account will be
set up for you.

Here is the live Cisco rack site:

CCNA Rack

And here are the training pages. You must complete the
training before your rack account is allocated.

Cisco Rack Training

One last thing. There are sure to be a few bugs in there
still so if you find one, please let us know.

===========================================================

YouTube Cisco Videos

I have added a couple of videos to Youtube. One on password
recovery for a router and VLANS on a 2950.

If you like the videos please rate them.

===========================================================

New CCNA Study Guide

I am putting the finishing touches to a 600 page CCNA study
guide based upon the www.howtonetwork.net website. It will
contain all the things you need to know to pass your CCNA
and CCENT plus over 26 hands on labs. The advantage to you
to having the manual is that you can read it anywhere since
you can pop it in your bag.

I absolutely guarantee it will be the best CCNA study guide
you have ever seen or I give you your money back.

The proofs are due early next week and then it will be
available to you about a week after that I hope.

===========================================================

10 Reasons Why You Must Pass Your CCNA

Yes, I know you have been meaning to get on with passing
your CCNA. You have some books and maybe a few other study
tools but you never seem to be able to knuckle down and
follow the study plan you keep meaning to write.

Now is the best time for you to pass your CCNA. There are
big transitions taking place in the global economy at the
moment and the certified engineer will always have the
advantage over the person who says he or she can do the
job but has never bothered to take the exam to prove it.

Here are a few reasons you need to get certified ASAP:

CCNA Jobs

===========================================================

Congratulations

Well done to Wayne McEvans who passed his CCENT last week
with a perfect score of 1000.

Wayne said ‘just to let you know I passed my CCENT with an
unbelievable score of 1000, it looks as all the sleepless
nights have been worth it thanks for your help i feel a
lot more comfortable now.’

With the right materials and some determination you can
pass your CCNA and CCENT.

Well done Wayne.

Buddy – Can You Spare Me a Link?

I am still very keen to hear from those of you who are
webmasters for good quality web sites.

howtonetwork.net is flying up the Google listings and that
is a good thing.

I am wondering if you have access to a good quality web
site where you can add a link to point to us. If you
fulfil the below criteria please let me know and we can
work out a win/win with either extended membership of
the site or extra rack credits.

If you have a .gov or a .edu domain then I will be
especially interested in chatting with you.

Please drop me a line at:

If you fancy a weekend of routing and switching fun then
please feel to join us on one of our famous CCNA weekend
boot camps with a 97% exam success rate.

Dates are available in Cardiff, Milton Keynes, Birmingham

How to Network Tip of the Week #47 – 31st July 2008

===========================================================

Welcome to the forty-seventh www.howtonetwork.net tip of
the week.

===========================================================

Live Rack Instructions

Today is the last day you can join the site and get 15
hours rack time instead of 10 so please be quick if you
want the extra 5 hours.

Can you all please remember that you have to do the very
short 7 lessons and then fill in the terms and conditions
box before your rack account is allocated. Many people
have been e-mailing us saying access isn’t working when
they haven’t done the training yet.

Here is the live Cisco rack site:

training before your rack account is allocated.

One last thing. There are sure to be a few bugs in there
still so if you find one, please let us know.

===========================================================

YouTube Cisco Videos

I have added a couple of videos to Youtube. The latest one
is how to connect to a router using your USB port. You
will need to know how to do this if your laptop does not
have a COM port which is basically every modern one now
manufactured.

If you like the videos please rate them.

CCNA Videos

===========================================================

New CCNA Study Guide

Cisco CCNA Simplified is very nearly done. I absolutely
guarantee that is will be the best CCNA study guide you
have ever read in your life. In fact, I am so confident in
it that it comes with a 100% money back guarantee. I don’t
think any other Cisco authors offer that last time I
checked.

It should be ready for sale next week. Members of
howtonetwork.net will be able to take advantage of a
special discounted offer.

===========================================================

Coming Soon

CCNA flash card decks will soon be available to all members
so you will be able to study on the go.

We are still writing the content for the Cisco CCNA IINS
security qualification. Should be ready in a few weeks we
are hoping. The videos will take a short while longer.

Cisco CCNA Simplified study manual will be ready in a week
roughly. When it is ready, I confidently say that you will
be able to set fire to your other CCNA study books or use
them to prop up uneven tables.

===========================================================

10 Books Every Cisco Engineer Must Read

I am guessing that you don’t just want to scrape through
your exam and then pray you don’t encounter anything
outside the scope of the CCNA syllabus in your networking
career.

For this reason, I have put together a list of the books
I personally think should be on the book shelf of every
serious Cisco engineer. When I worked at Cisco TAC I
know that we all had a copy of each of these books. I
have of course slipped my book in there.

CCNA Study Guides

Don’t feel you need to buy them all now and remember that
you can get them cheap on eBay or Amazon marketplace.

===========================================================

Congratulations

Well done to Colin Mc Ouat who passed his CCNA this week
with a very healthy 936.

===========================================================

New Cisco CCNA Blog

I have started my own Cisco CCNA blog where you will be
able to access loads of great articles, videos and other
cool content which you will find useful when it comes to
exam time, technical interviews or during your time as
a Cisco network engineer.

The first few entries feature important exam news you
need to know plus a round up of some great study resources
which will help you study and pass your exams.

I hope you join it.

Welcome to the forty-eighth www.howtonetwork.net tip of
the week.

===========================================================

Live Rack Update

Many of you are now logging into the live rack and getting
lots of hands on practise which will hold you in very
good stead for your exams, for technical interviews and
of course it gets you more hands on experience for your
resume.

Can you all please remember that you have to do the very
short 7 lessons and then fill in the terms and conditions

only be accessed by members.

===========================================================

Pass Your CCNA in 60 Days

I am in the process of writing a 60 day Cisco CCNA study
plan and along with it I will be issuing a challenge. The
course will be open to members and non members and will
be free.

If you follow my study plan and advice, you will pass your
CCNA 60 days after having started it (so it isn’t just a
clever name).

It should be ready to go in September.

===========================================================

CCNA Training in the USA

We are thinking about coming over to the USA to run some
CCNA weekend boot camps. If that is something you are
interested in or even better, if you work for a company
who would like some on site Cisco CCNA training then let
us know.

Just drop us a line at help@howtonetwork.net or if you want
to come on a weekend course just send an e-mail with your
city in the title and we will gauge interest.

===========================================================

New Forensic Checks at Cisco Testing Centres

No, they won’t be swapping your mouth just yet but Cisco
are clamping down hard on exam cheats. Instead of getting
your pass through you are going to have your photo ID
checked before your pass certificate is issued.

Students Passing

Well done to all the below students who have passed their
CCNA and CCENT exams:

Colin Mc Ouat – 936
Ed Wiles – 993
Wayne McEvans (CCENT) – 1000 (Perfect score!)
Richard Barker – 854
Patrick Green (CCENT) – 922
Ferdinand Abe – 907
Davinder Punia – 933

Ferdinand gave lots of great study advice on the site
forum. You can visit it now to see what he says. He also
said:

‘About the exam, I can’t give you the exact Q&A but I
could give you some tips:

1. Practice and practice your Subnetting, VLSM and route
summarization. I think 50% of the exam involves all these.
That’s why I ran out of time in one of the simulations.
You need to compute your IP addresses first, before you
can configure all the routers and switches. The exam is
more difficult than what I expected.

2. Practice your LABS. Use the Live Rack for more
routers and switches. When you do your practice labs,
don’t be satisfied if your configuration is already
working. The most important is issue some “Show” commands
and be able to understand all the details of the output.

3. Know your commands. Tab didn’t work in actual exam.
Shortcuts work though.

Hope I mentioned everything. To end this, I would like
to say thank you to Paul and Howtonetwork. This
achievement is never been possible without you.

-Ferdinand’

Well done Ferdinand and thanks for the tips.

===========================================================

Cisco Challenge Labs

You asked for some challenge labs so you can have them!

We have started adding challenge labs. They are free to
use but the solutions will only be available to members. I
suggest you use them once you have built up some confidence
on the standard labs on the site.

CCNA Labs

We will be building the list of labs over the next week
so please send any requests to us at help@howtonetwork.net

CCNP Boot Camp

We have a Cisco CCNP boot camp starting in November this
year. Any reader of this newsletter can come on the CCNA
weekend for no charge when they book on the CCNP. That
means you save £397 and you still have plenty of time to
pass your CCNA in time for the CCNP.

CCNP Training

===========================================================

CCNA Flash Study Cards

We are just about to add study cards to the site. There is
just a small tweak to the installation software. When it
goes live you will be able to download and test yourself
on various Cisco CCNA and CCENT topics, mix up your deck
questions and improve your knowledge.

I still can’t believe I am only charging $9.97 per month
for all this stuff. I must be mad!

Cisco CCNA and CCENT Cram Cards Added

I don’t know about you but drilling facts and figures
over and over again is the best way to get all the
important details into your memory so you can recall
them in the exam or whilst on customer site.

For this reason you can now benefit from exclusive CCNA
and CCENT cram cards. Each deck is tailored to a specific
exam area such as IP addressing or wireless. We are
writing more decks as you read this but for now there
are four for you to benefit from or just one deck if you
are not a member yet.

Please visit the below page and watch the video showing
you how the software works. As per usual, any feedback
is most welcome.

===========================================================

Live Cisco Rack

I keep getting e-mails from members asking for their
username and password for the rack. Once again – you are
allocated your rack once you have completed the 7 short

you don’t have access, even if you are a member.

===========================================================

Cisco Exam Syllabuses

We have added clickable Cisco syllabuses to the site. This
means you can follow your study time in line with how
Cisco are going to structure your exam questions.

I have noticed that there are a couple of areas which
they appear to have left vague and there are a few other
areas which we don’t have labs for (such as RSTP+). I
really don’t think you would ever be asked to configure
some of the stuff they are asking for in the exam but we
will endeavour to add more content nonetheless.

A big welcome to the 60 new members who joined this week.
We all look forward to seeing you on the discussion forum
and congratulaing you when you pass your exams.

===========================================================

Members Passing

Well done to Robert Szymanek who passed his CCENT this
week. Robert put a lot of hard work in and used the live
rack for many hours and deserved to pass.

===========================================================

CCNA Simplified – Out This Week

My CCNA study guide ‘CCNA Simplified’ will be released this
week. I will be adding it to the website this week. I am
in the process of sorting out a distribution site in the
UK and USA. There will be a discounted price for members
of howtonetwork.net

The book is basically the theory, labs and easy way to
subnet guide but in soft back form so you can carry it
around with you. It will come with lots of downloadable
software (worth over $400).

Please keep an eye on the home page for the book details
appearing in the next couple of days.

===========================================================

Big Favour Please

Thanks to all of you who visited the below site and filled
in the feedback. No doubt you are now enjoying your exam
or cram cards.

If you haven’t done so yet there is still time to complete
the survey.

As a thank you, when you have done that, drop me an
e-mail at help@howtonetwork.net with the subject
‘Review Done’ and in the body tell me if you want a
never before seen practice exam or free CCNA study card
deck.

I will send out your tools within a few days.

Please can you do it now so you don’t forget. Thanks.

IP addressing, WAN, Wireless, Switching and now Routing
decks which will give you plenty to be getting on with. I
will add a couple more next week.

===========================================================

Live Cisco Rack

As you know, members have access to 3 live racks of Cisco
equipment. The thing is, I can see lots of you with
accounts set up who have never used a single hour! If you
want to pass your CCNA or CCENT you will need at least 15
hours time on Cisco kit so what are you waiting for?

===========================================================

Pass Your CCNA in 60 Days

I have almost finished the 60 days to CCNA plan. I am
looking for 10 very keen individuals who really want to
pass their CCNA and are willing to pilot the 60 days plan.

You must be willing to work hard, give feedback and be
able to dedicate 2 hours per day to passing. I am not
interested in hearing from people who blame work, family
or other things for not having time to study. We all have
challenges to overcome (I am writing this at 05:30) so if
you are willing to take responsibility for your learning
then please drop me an e-mail telling me why you should be
one of the 10 to be on the test team.

You don’t have to be a member of the site but you must
have access to CCNA study material and Cisco routers and
switches to practise on because the 60 day plan features
lots of hands on practise.

I plan to start the pilot next week once I have finished
the content.

If you follow my study plan and advice, you will pass your
CCNA 60 days after having started it (so it isn’t just a
clever name).

How to Network Tip of the Week #52 – 4th September 2008

===========================================================

Welcome to the fifty second www.howtonetwork.net tip of
the week.

===========================================================

Where did August Go?

Who stole August? It was there a minute ago. I just went
off to Starbucks to get a coffee and it went? Sheesh. Well
then, it must mean autumn is on the way and if the
weather is bad you might as well stay in and study for
your CCNA. It is either that or watch re-runs of Friends.

===========================================================

CCNA Simplified – Out Now

Finally. I feel like early retirement. Writing the CCNA
Study Guide was easy. The hard part was all the cover
design, typesetting and then setting up the distribution.

CCNA Simplified is in my opinion the best CCNA study guide
available. I have stripped away all the useless jargon and
irrelevant information you get in most CCNA manuals and
left a manual designed to not only get you through your
CCNA exam but give you the confidence to use your skills
on a live network.

You also receive over $400 in study software including my
CCNA cram guide, flash study cards, practise exams, videos,
seven mini-quizzes and the Subnetting Cheat Chart I
created which lets you answer any subnetting question in
the CCNA or CCENT exam in a few seconds.

For those who have not joined the site yet, there is a
special offer if you decide to do so. You get 20 rack
hours instead of 10 so when you join, buy the book and drop
me an e-mail.

Members price is £27 in the UK and $47 US dollars. If
you buy the book as a member you also get an extra 10
rack hours so drop me an e-mail once your order goes in.
Make sure your rack account is set up if you haven’t
gotten round to doing that yet.

Non-members price is £37 in the UK and $67 in US dollars.

We can deliver at the moment to the UK, USA, Canada and
Australia. If you live elsewhere, please drop us an
e-mail and we can calculate postage and add it to the
checkout.

CCNA Study Guide

Please let us know if anything is not clear on the order
page or if you experience any problems whilst ordering.
I have tested the pages and links but there may be
something I have missed.

How to Network Tip of the Week #53 – 11th September 2008

===========================================================

Welcome to the fifty third www.howtonetwork.net tip of
the week.

There is lots to tell you this week so please read the
below carefully.

===========================================================

Banish Cisco Exam Nerves Forever

I don’t often get excited but this week I have been very
very excited indeed.

I have found that the biggest reason you might fail the
exam is NOT lack of knowledge but exam nerves. You know,
the knot in the pit of your stomach as you drive to the
testing centre. Sweaty palms, shaking hands, nervous
laughter.

The questions pop up and your mind goes blank. You read
all about OSPF but now the question is there you simply
can’t recall the information. That is $250 you couldn’t
afford to waste gone forever!

Well no more. I have hired the UKs top hypnotherapist to
record a Cisco exam success audio. If you listen to it
every evening you will feel motivated, focused and
confident when it comes to exam day. You may even find
yourself looking forward to it.

Best of all. It is free to members of www.howtonetwork.net

their proud owners.

CCNA Study Guide

===========================================================

CCNA Student Interviewed

I have started to interview students who have passed their
Cisco CCNA.

How did they fit time in for study? Was it as hard as
people say or not too bad? How did they cope during the
exam and does the ‘?’ key work on the router simulator
during the exam practicals.

All this and more on the podcast page and more interviews
to follow.

Contributors Wanted

The site is growing faster than I can keep up with it. I
am looking to hire writers for the below content. I will
let you know more next week but if you know anyone who
can write excellent quality content for me in easy to
understand language then please get them to contact me.

CCNP – All 4 modules
CCNA – Security
CCNA – Wireless
CCNA – Voice
CCDA

I will be posting an official advert on Elance later in
the week. All applicants must come via that advert. I will
want to see a 5 page sample of their writing if they apply.

Pass Your CCNA in 60 Days

The pilot team have started on their 5 day prep sessions
and then will move onto the full 60 day programme.

Once I have some feedback I will be going live so the
rest of you can get your studies on track. You can
pre-register for the programme via the below link and
of course there is no charge at all for this. If you want
to do anything to help me then please tell your friends.

CCNA in 60 Days

===========================================================

Coming to Boston – USA

I will be in Boston MA for an internet marketing conference
from 2-7th October. If any of you live around there we
can catch up for a coffee.

I will be looking to do some sight seeing as well.

===========================================================

===========================================================

Welcome to the fifty fourth www.howtonetwork.net tip of
the week.

===========================================================

Banish Cisco Exam Nerves Forever

The first person to use the Cisco exam hypno audio passed
his CCNA last week.

Danny said:

Guys,

I just got back from the test centre where I passed CCNA on
the second try! With 928!…. 2-3 hours study a day and
loads of prep tests. Finally the CCNA Hypnosis mp3 was
great kept me calm so I didn’t make any stupid mistakes!

If you are not listening to the hypno audio then your exam
success chances are going to be negatively affected:

===========================================================

CCNA Exam Scores

It appears that the CCNA exam score has moved from 849 to
pass down to 833. But don’t think it is any easier. There
are several questions within questions sections as well
as several non-marked questions put in my Cisco for
evaluation.

Cisco Live Rack

Sorry to those of you who have been having problems with
the live rack. There have been some delays when connecting
to the devices. I think there is an issue on the server
which hosts the bespoke rack application.

We are also looking at replacing the pix firewall which
keeps falling over!

Problems don’t just come in one’s do they? We are looking
at the issues this week and I hope to have it stable as
soon as possible.

===========================================================

Pass Your CCNA in 60 Days

The pilot team have given me some very valuable feedback

Run Your Own Cisco Training Business

The last 2 licences to teach my famous Cisco CCNA weekend
model are now available in the UK. If you fancy running
your own business on the side but didn’t want to take a
risk or didn’t know where to start then come and visit
the below page.

I will personally train you in all the teaching skills and
marketing skills you need to be a big success. I will also
pay my business coach to coach you on a one to one basis
for 2 months. Emerson charges over £2k per month for his
services and he is worth ten times that.

The current licence holders are making anything from
£1500 – £3500 PER WEEKEND! Don’t take my word for it by
the way, feel free to check out what they are saying on
the below link:

http://www.networksinc.co.uk/Cisco_Training_Licence.htm

This model will be coming out to the USA later in the year
so drop me a line if you want to be among the first.
