How to Network Tip of the Week #72 – 5th Feb 2009
===========================================================
Welcome to the seventy second www.howtonetwork.net tip of
the week.
===========================================================
The UK has ground to a halt this week due to severe weather
in the form of snow. It only takes a few flakes for us to
descend into chaos. If it carries on for a couple more
days I can see running out of food and having to eat one
of my neighbors.

End of $1000 Challenge
The $1000 dollar challenge has helped create another 10
CCNA engineers – all trained via www.howtonetwork.net.
I was impressed with the results of the challenge. Ten
people passed it and I’m pretty sure that being in the
challenge was a deciding factor for their success.
Of the nine, three have been offered jobs in IT teams
and one has been asked to teach at a Cisco Network Academy
which is great news. This is at a time when the rest of
the world is running round claiming that you can’t get
any IT jobs blah blah..what rubbish.
Here is the list of those who passed. I will be making
the draw in a week once the final proof of passing has
come in.

New Levels of Access
Many of you have noticed that I have added two new levels
of membership. The basic level is still there but there is
now Gold and Platinum.
You can see for yourself what is involved but Platinum is
there for those of you who want unlimited live Cisco rack
time, a coaching facility via e-mail and an exam vetting
procedure so you can ensure you are prepared before
wasting money on the real thing.
If you want to be upgraded drop me a note to

Cool New Resources for Members
You can feel part of a community by creating your own
profile, adding you photo and networking with other
members on the site. You can have a mini-blog and send
each other messages.
Here is the video showing you how:

You can now rate the articles added to the site and leave
comments so I can see which you find useful. Here is

Heavily Discounted CCNA Manuals
I have had an order of 20 CCNA manuals arrive with the
wrong color on the front. They are a washed out blue
rather than blue/purple.
Rather than throw them in the bin I am letting them go
for £7 plus postage. They are only available in the UK and
they will be marked as damaged on the cover so others don’t
think I am selling poor quality books. If you want a
cheap but excellent quality CCNA manual then grab one
while they are still left.
Here is the usual page link:
and here is the special order page:

Retake Cisco Exams for No Charge!
If you haven’t heard yet, there is a special promotion on
at the moment via Pearson Vue, the Cisco exam testing
company. If you are not successful in your Cisco exam you
can take it again for no charge.

Cisco IOS Challenge Exam
You are going to be drilled on your IOS commands in the
CCNA and CCENT exams. It is no good having a rough idea
of what they are and you won’t have a router command line
in front of you for many of the questions.
For this purpose I have created an IOS challenge exam for
you to try. You shouldn’t attempt the exam until you are
getting 100% in it.
I would ask a really big favour – can you please forward
the link to the exam to 3 friends who would benefit from
it. It is zipped up so all you need to do is unzip it and
click on the flash player exe icon.

Troubleshooting EIGRP
You are going to be hit with either a routing or a switch
troubleshooting problem in your CCNA exam and that is no
secret.
Here is a link to one of my older YouTube vids which is
still a great way for you to learn how to easily tackle
a routing issue. Keep your eyes open for the switching
video due out soon.
Please give me a review if you like it:
