How to Network Tip of the Week #73 – 12th Feb 2009
Welcome to the seventy third www.howtonetwork.net tip of
The snow has finally began to thaw here and the UK is
returning to normal. We were stuck in our house for 3 days
but since I work from home I couldn’t use that as an
excuse for not working. Bah!
Three New CCNAs This Week Alone!
Well done to Glenn Wilson who has passed his CCNA. He just
missed the Jan 31 cut off date for the $1000 challenge but
a great consolation prize is the fact he is a CCNA now.
Congrats to John Cicala who said:
‘I passed the test today with a 910. Thanks to all
the helpful information on howtontework.net. This website
has been my number 1 source for study and practice besides
the text book from cisco and the course I took for 2
And well done to Steve Pearson
Passed the CCNA today (953/1000). This site is very useful,
the video’s and practise exams are the down to earth tools
Good luck all.
The forum has changed. You have a lot more resources on
there for you to use.
Here it is and the training video links are further down
in the newsletter.
End of $1000 Challenge
The $1000 dollar challenge has ended. The winner
has been drawn and will be notified today. Once I have
checked a few things with them their details will be
Since the challenge generated 10 new CCNAs I think I will
repeat it in the near future. Please don’t wait for me to
announce it though, start studying hard NOW.
New Levels of Access
Many of you have noticed that I have added two new levels
of membership. The basic level is still there but there is
now Gold and Platinum.
You can see for yourself what is involved but Platinum is
there for those of you who want unlimited live Cisco rack
time, a coaching facility via e-mail and an exam vetting
procedure so you can ensure you are prepared before
wasting money on the real thing.
If you want to be upgraded drop me a note to
Cool New Resources for Members
If you are a member of the site, I have started a members
training page so you can learn how to get the most from
all the resources on the site. You will also have noticed
that we have a brand new discussion forum for you to
enjoy with lots more resources.
Heavily Discounted CCNA Manuals
I have 3 of the discounted manuals left. First come first
Rather than throw them in the bin I am letting them go
for £7 plus postage. They are only available in the UK and
they will be marked as damaged on the cover so others don’t
think I am selling poor quality books. If you want a
cheap but excellent quality CCNA manual then grab one
while they are still left.
Here is the usual page link:
and here is the special order page:
I am looking to take on 5 affiliates on a trail. Basically,
you need to be a member of the site and able to refer us
on to at least 10 other people.
If you love the site and fell it would benefit others and
can refer us to a list of friends, colleagues or better,
your head of IT then drop me a line to email@example.com
and I can give you an affiliate link.
Cisco IOS Challenge Exam
You are going to be drilled on your IOS commands in the
CCNA and CCENT exams. It is no good having a rough idea
of what they are and you won’t have a router command line
in front of you for many of the questions.
For this purpose I have created an IOS challenge exam for
you to try. You shouldn’t attempt the exam until you are
getting 100% in it.
I would ask a really big favour – can you please forward
the link to the exam to 3 friends who would benefit from
it. It is zipped up so all you need to do is unzip it and
click on the flash player exe icon.
If you spot any mistakes, please drop me a line to
